The SaaS MVP checklist: what to build in your first 8 weeks
A practical checklist for founders building a B2B SaaS MVP: what to include, what to postpone, and the foundations that are painful to add later.

An MVP is not a smaller version of the final product. It is the fastest way to learn whether customers will pay for the core value. Here is the checklist we use to keep B2B SaaS MVPs focused without creating painful rewrites later.
Build in week one, because it is painful later
- Multi-tenant data model with organisation and user separation.
- Authentication with roles, invites and SSO-ready structure.
- Audit logging for important actions.
- Environments, CI/CD and automated backups.
- Product analytics events named consistently from day one.
Build only the core loop
Pick the one workflow customers will pay for and make it excellent. Everything else is a manual process, a spreadsheet, or a later release. If AI is part of the value, ship it inside that core loop rather than as a separate chat tab.
Postpone without guilt
- Complex permission matrices.
- Custom reporting builders.
- Native mobile apps, unless mobile is the core use case.
- Self-serve billing edge cases; handle them by hand for the first customers.
Billing early, even if manual
Charging from the first customer is the strongest validation signal you can get. A simple Stripe or Razorpay subscription with one or two plans is enough. Usage metering can come later.
Ship, then measure weekly
Set two or three activation and retention metrics before launch and review them every week. The roadmap after the MVP should come from what those numbers and customer conversations tell you, not from the original wishlist.
